Flea Control
Flea control is a common service provided by pest control companies on the West Coast, especially in households with pets. A flea is an external parasite which lives solely on blood. Flea control should be sought not only because their bites leave irritating lumps on the skin, they also spread disease. The most common flea identified by our pest control specialists is the cat flea. The cat flea will attack most warm blooded animals including dogs, cats, humans, rodents, rabbits etc. Professional flea control is essential as soon as an infestation is discovered as they have a phenomenal growth rate. If flea removal techniques are not used, a female flea can lay over 1000 eggs in its lifespan. Eggs are laid after each meal and the young will feed on blood immediately after hatching.
How to Identify Whether You Require Flea Control
A flea’s bite, although not painful is very itchy. It is characterized by a central red spot with a red halo and often only minor swelling.
Typical indications of a flea infestation:
- Fleas normally target your legs but are also found on other parts of the body. They will often leave a few bites in close proximity to each other rather than just one.
- In areas of high infestation, they can sometimes be seen jumping from one location to another.
- Flea control should be sought where pets seem uncomfortable and constantly scratch and bite at their fur. Hind legs are often targeted on dogs whereas the head and neck of cats are targeted.
- When inspecting your pets skin one can often find black droppings. This is adult flea faeces. A flea removal comb can be used over a white paper sheet for easy identification with dark haired pets.
Why the need for Flea Control?
Just the thought of a flea infestation is enough to make most homeowners start searching for flea removal techniques. Flea control is vital, a flea’s bite not only causes itching but can also transmit disease and cause serious allergies. Tapeworms are carried by fleas as well as diseases such as the Bubonic plague, Murine Typhus, Tularemia and Dipylidum Caninu. Humans and animals can also suffer from an allergic flea bite or “dermatitis”. The reaction is characterized by hair loss, itching and reddening of the skin, followed by a secondary infection.
Our Flea Extermination Technique
As the Pest Control Pros, we are qualified and experienced to ensure complete flea extermination. Our pest control services include two treatments for effective flea control. This is because female fleas lay eggs after each feed which need to be treated at a later stage, once they have hatched. We use a gas as well as a residual spray to ensure effective control. Affected pets should also be treated with a flea removal bath.
